Yolo County to look into new options for Knights Landing waste & recycling collection.

On December 31, 2019 the contract the County holds with Waste Management, Inc. (WM) for solid waste and recycling collection in Knights Landing will be coming to an end.  The County has been in negotiations with both WM as well as Recology, Inc.,  in their respective service areas to develop a new solid waste agreement that meets or exceeds existing service standards set to begin January 1, 2020.  Under new state law organics (food waste and green waste) services will be required to be provided at each home.  This means each household in Knights Landing will receive a 3rd solid waste collection cart (with a green lid) for composting.  There are currently two options for the Yolo County Board of Supervisors to consider this coming October (1) weekly collection of organics at an average increase of $8/household/month or every other week collection of organics (alternating with the recycling) at an average increase of $3/household/month.  In order to keep rates as low as possible and meet state diversion standards, County staff will also be recommending that all County residents be part of solid waste collection both in and out of town unless exempted.  County staff is currently planning to recommend the every other week option above but would like any input from the community on these new service options.  If you have any questions or would like to provide additional input please contact Marissa Juhler at (530) 666-8813 or mjuhler@yolocounty.org
